Important Note: SendGrid is an SMTP-only email provider, meaning it doesn't have its own built-in mailbox for receiving replies. To connect SendGrid with MailOptimal, you'll need to use the SMTP method and a separate email account with IMAP capabilities for receiving replies. Microsoft Office 365 inboxes do not support IMAP, so they won't work for this setup.

Here's how to connect Sendgrid to MailOptimal using the SMTP method:

Prerequisites:

  • A Sendgrid account with an active Sender Authentication email address.
  • A separate email account with IMAP capabilities (e.g., Gmail).

STEP 1 - Log in to your MailOptimal account and click on 'Add Email Account' under dashboard, choose the "SMTP" connection method.
STEP 2 - Configure the SMTP settings as follows:

1. SMTP Username: Enter the email address you connected in "Sender Authentication" on Sendgrid.

2. SMTP Password: Instead of a traditional password, you'll use your Sendgrid API Key which is generated in your SendGrid dashboard

In your Sendgrid dashboard, navigate to Settings > API Keys > Create API Key.

  • Give your API key a name and select Restricted Access.
  • Under "Permissions," grant full access to "Mail Send."
  • Copy the generated API Key and paste it into the SMTP Password field in MailOptimal.

Enter the remaining SMTP settings as below:

STEP 3 - Enter IMAP credentials and settings.

If you are connecting a Gmail / Google Workspace inbox, you need to create an App Password. To do so, please follow the steps mentioned in the article 'How to generate an app password in Gmail?'

Once you've completed these steps, MailOptimal will be able to send emails using your Sendgrid account.

Happy email warming!
